It has been traded at the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores since 1977 .

Wal-Mart operates nearly 893 retail outlets in Mexico including restaurants and supermarkets, under the names Superama, Suburbia, VIPS, Sam's Club and Bodega Aurrerá. The company is now Mexico's largest private sector employer. It competes fiercely with Soriana, Supermercados Gigante, Comercial Mexicana, Casa Ley, Chedraui and H-E-B.

Wal-Mart in Teotihuacán In 2004, Wal-Mart faced opposition by local and environmental groups opposed to the installation of a Wal-Mart-owned Bodega Aurrerá store located near the archeological site of Teotihuacán. In spite of negative sentimentsby these groups and the media, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) dismissed concerns that construction of the store would destroy archeological treasures. The Federal government of the United Mexican States also endorsed the project which is located a mile away from the pyramids. The store opened its doors at the end of the year.
